Erick Tsetekani | Executive Director

Eric Tsetekani, is the Executive Director for Maikhanda Trust, a local NGO in Malawi which was established in 2006. He has over 10 years working with Maikhanda under various portfolios namely: Program Manager, Deputy Executive Director, and now Executive Director. His role as Executive Director is to have oversight in areas of programming, Strategic Planning, and Financial viability of the organization. Mr. Tsetekani oversees a staff of about 40 individuals involved in Quality Improvement work and community work. Prior to joining Maikhanda, Mr. Tsetekani worked with Plan International as Program Coordinator, CARE International as Program Coordinator, and Catholic Relief Services as Training and Capacity Building Coordinator.

George Matekenya | Director of Finance

George is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA) with more than 20 years’ experience in Accounting, Auditing and Financial Management with the Private Sector, Parastatals and NGOs. He joined Maikhanda in February, 2015. As a Finance Director, he is responsible for overseeing the fiscal operations and systems of Maikhanda Trust. This includes financial reporting and management process, establishing and Monitoring accounting procedures and policies to ensure that all financial transactions are executed and documented in accordance with International Reporting Standards (IRFs), Malawi Laws and Regulations as well as Donor Requirements. George is also responsible for the production of monthly management accounts, Statutory Accounts, Budgets, Donor reports and management of Annual and Donor Audits.

Edward Moses | Director of Programs

Edward Moses, MSc, is Director of Programs at MaiKhanda Trust, Malawi with 10 years’ experience in healthcare quality improvement (QI) and overall 17 years’ experience in Quality Management (industrial and healthcare). He is a valuable asset and a strong advocate for Deming’s model for improvement. Edward has worked with several District Health Management Teams in Malawi helping them to improve health systems management through application of quality improvement methodologies. He has played an instrumental role in designing systems that allow for QI models to be adopted at the community level in various settings across rural Malawi.

Dr Mercy Makwakwa | Director of Programs

Dr Mercy Jere Makwakwa is an Improvement Advisor and a Program Manager for Quality Improvement Projects at MaiKhanda Trust. Mercy is a Medical Doctor by profession, having completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS) at College of Medicine in Malawi in 2010. With 5 years’ experience in managing quality improvement projects in healthcare in Malawi; Mercy teaches, coaches and mentors hospital quality improvement teams to test and implement change ideas that will help improve their indicators. She also builds capacity of hospital managers and front-line staff to manage their Quality Improvement projects on their own. Prior to joining MaiKhanda Trust, Mercy worked at Kamuzu Central Hospital as a medical doctor.

Jime Tambala | Monitoring & Evaluation Manager

Jime joined Maikhanda Trust as the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager in 2014. He has profound knowledge in M&E and data management of health related programs. In his position, he provides capacity building to program staff and organisation partners on M&E and data management. He is also responsible for developing, implementing and coordinating M&E system for Maikhanda programs focusing of Maternal and Newborn Health, Family Planning and HIV/AIDS. He also oversees the coordination of evaluation studies and develops project databases as necessary and relevant data collection tools.

Jime holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. He has received extensive training in M&E, Project design and management, Leading and Facilitating Quality Improvement and Participatory Learning and Action. He also supported the development of M-health mobile phone application for community follow-up of New born babies in Ntchisis and Kasungu districts, Malawi.
